9월 4일 '태권도의 날'이란?
대한민국 법정기념일 '태권도의 날은' 태권도가 올림픽 정식종목으로 채택된 것은 기념하기 위해 매년 9월 4일 열리는 전세계 태권도인들의 축제!
태권도는 1988년 서울 올림픽 시범종목 채택을 시작으로 바르셀로나 올림픽을 거쳐 1994년 9월 4일 올림픽 정식종목 채택이 확정되었으며 2000년 시드니 올림픽엣 첫 공식 태권도 경기를 시작으로 지금까지 전 세계인들에게 사랑받는 스포츠로 자리매김하였습니다.
이에 2006년 세계태권도연맹 정기총회에서 9월 4일을 '태권도의 날'로 지정하는 등.
태권도는 세계인의 스포츠로서 위상을 높여왔습니다.
2018년 국회 법안 통과로 마침내 대한민국 국기로 자리매김한 태권도는 앞으로도 새로운 역사를 써나갈 것입니다. 코로나-19로 어려움이 계속되는 상황속에서도 태권도 수련에 대한 노력과 열정은 멈추지 않았습니다. 미래 인재를 양성하기 위한 다양한 프로그램 뿐 아니라 학교 체육과 생활 체육으로 많은 사람들이 심신을 수련하는 등 태권도는 일상의 어려움과 역경을 극복할 수 있는 큰 힘이 되고 있습니다. 또한 태권도를 알리기 위한 노력들이 계속 이어져 왔습니다. 태권도 관련 기관 및 단체들은 국내와 해외 각지에서 각종 대회와 시범공연, 수련 캠프, 페스티벌 등 다양한 행사를 개최하였고 문화교류를 통해 태권도의 정신과 철학을 나누는 등 전 세계에 국기 태권도를 알리기 위해 다방면으로 최선을 다하고 있습니다.

사랑하는 태권도 가족여러분. 27년 전 오늘은 우리 태권도가 올림픽 정식 종목으로 채택된 날입니다. 그날을 기념하기 위해 제정된 '태권도의 날'은 태권도의 미래를 위해 모두가 한마음 한뜻으로 힘을 모으는 기쁜 날입니다. 태권도의 날이 벌써 14번째를 맞이했습니다. 한국의 전통 무예였던 태권도가 이제는 전 세계 1억명이 수련하는 무도로 자리 잡았습니다. 최근 도쿄 하계올림픽과 패럴림픽에서 보여준 태권도 선수들의 자신감 넘치는 모습은 코로나-19로 힘들어하는 세계인들이게 희망과 용기의 상징이 되었습니다. 특히 이번 도쿄 올림픽 시상대에 올랐던 21개국의 선수들은 태권도의 세계적인 위상을 한눈에 보여주었습니다. 오늘이 태권도의 도약을 위한 새로운 출발점이 되기를 기대하며 태권도 진흥 유공자로 선정되신 분들께 축하의 말씀을 드립니다. 오늘 이 시간이 태권도 가족 여러분의 성취를 함께 나누고 자긍심을 더욱 고무시킬 수 있는 자리가 되길 바랍니다. 여러분의 건승을 기원합니다.

My name is Hwang Hee. I am The Minister of Culturem Sports and Tourism of Korea. My dear beloved Taekwondo family 27 years ago today Taekwondo was adopted officially as ad Olympic sport Taekwondo day was initiated to celebrate that moment. It is the joyous day on which we muster our strengths with collaborative minds for the future of Taekwondo. this year is the 14th anniversary for Taekwondo Day Traditionally, Taekwondo used to be a Korean sport. Now it has become a global martial art, practised by 100 million people. The confidence of Taekwondo athletes shown in the recent Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics has become the symbol of hope and courage to the whole world who have been struggling due to the COVID-19 pademic Escpetically the sight of Taekwondo cometitors from 21 countries who reached a podium position at the Tokyo Olympics proved the international prestige of Taekwondo. I expect that today will be a new starting point for Taekwondo to leap forward from and I would like to congratulate persons of distinguished service to the promotion of Taekwondo. I hope this time of the day will be the moment for all Taekwondo family to share their achievement and feel pride. I wish you my very best. Thank you

Distinguished global Taekwondo family! In 1994, at the 103rd IOC General Assembly in Paris Taekwondo was adopted as an official Olympics event and today we mark the 27th anniversary. It was possible all thanks to the blood, sweat, and tears of senior members of the Taekwondo commonity and today we sincerely celebrate their contribution for the globalization of Taekwondo. At the same time we need to ruminate our roles to build a brighter future for Taekwondo. As the novel coronavirus pandemic(COVID-19) prolongs it must have been painful times for our global Taekwondo families. However, I believe we could overcome such challenges when we steel ourselves with the Taekwondo spirit. Despite tough times, every Taekwondo practitioner worldwide has contributed to the advancement of Taekwondo from wherever you are and I have no doubt that your dedication will help elevate the status of Taekwondo let us remind ourselves of the joyous and emotional moment of the day Taekwondo was officially adopted as an Olympic sport and let us pull together to usher in the revival of Taekwondo.
