What is「International Taekwondo Day」?

International Taekwondo Day is designated as September 4, on which Taekwondo has become an official Olympic sport, to promote and gain more interest in Taekwondo.
In 2008, with the enactment of the Act on the Promotion of Taekwondo and Creation of Taekwondo Park, it has become one of the national anniversaries in Korea.

History of 「International Taekwondo Day」

Sep. 4, 1994: Selected as an official Olympic sport during the 103rd IOC Session in Paris, France.

Jul. 25, 2006: Designated International Taekwondo Day by the World Taekwondo (WT) assembly in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.

Jun. 22, 2008: Enforced the Act on the Promotion of Taekwondo and Creation of Taekwondo Park and designated Taekwondo Day as national anniversary

Ceremony of 「International Taekwondo Day」

To celebrate Taekwondo being an official Olympic sport, a ceremony is held every year to honor and award organizations and individuals who contributed to the promotion and improvement of Taekwondo.

Date: Sep. 4 every year

Hosted by: Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism

Organized by: Taekwondo Promotion Foundation, Kukkiwon, World Taekwondo, Korea Taekwondo Association, and Korea Taekwondo Association for the Disabled
